Highwater Haulers - "Billionaire"
I got into Highwater Haulers since I first saw them at last year's Boston Calling. The Boston/Providence alt-country are back with a new single. "Billionaire" is a saw country song that is equal parts country, rock, and punk. It's a stripped back and powerful song that starts off as just electric guitar and voice until exploding in a country-punk track that barrels at you like a steam train. This is perfect for fans of early Drive-By Truckers and the more country side of Supersuckers. Country songs don't usually get referred to as DIY, but "Billionaire" has that rough DIY feel typically reserved for punk and indie rock bands. Highwater Haulers have a way of making songs that start off as good and solid, and by the end it's a great song, even one of your favorites. They pulled that off with this one.
