Western Massachusetts based Izzy Heltai is quickly becoming a favorite around here with his insanely consistent songs. "My Old Friends" is the latest, and is an ode to living in and his friends in Western Massachusetts. (Real Western MA, not Worcester County...) As Heltai keeps coming out with songs, I feel like I'm being repetitive, but he just keeps absolutely nailing the middle ground between mainstream singer/songwriter fare and the odder, more music snob friendly style. I can't even truly explain how Heltai does it. "My Old Friends" sounds like something that could easily be featured on an NPR music show, but it has just the slightest quirk that truly makes it stand out. Maybe it's just the charm of Heltai as an artist. If you haven't joined us on the Izzy Heltai bandwagon in the past year, you owe it to yourself to jump on board.
You can listen to "My Old Friends" below. For more on Izzy Heltai, check out the artist's website.
