For their latest single, STL GLD are helping to redefine what hip hop can be. "GLD FSH" is definitely a hip hop song, but it doesn't follow the typical guidelines for a hip hop song. Not only does the song not follow the standard formula of hip hop verse/R&B chorus/hip hop verse, there aren't the usual verses or chorus. Instead, you get Moe Pope going straight out in what sounds like (but obviously isn't) a stream of consciousness flow. It's closer to a Bob Dylan song than Jay-Z. Musically, "GLD FSH" is stripped back with minimal instrumentation. STL GLD have long been one of our favorite hip hop groups, and this new song just solidifies our love for them.
