It seems like we have a new favorite artist coming out of Australia every other week, and our latest discovery is Stella Bridie. The Naarm/Melbourne artist just released a new single that is going to win over some new die hard fans. "He Didn't Mean It" is an indie rock meets singer-songwriter song that leans heavily into the world of pop. It's a haunting and captivating track that it led by Bridie's strong vocals. It's going to appeal to fans of boygenius, especially Lucy Dacus' work, but "He Didn't Mean It" has its own sound. The track starts off a little more in the world of pop while it slowly builds into an epic indie rock crescendo. It goes from what sounds like a drum loop into a screeching guitar solo, all the while anchored by the raw emotion in Bridie's vocals.
Stella Bridie says of her latest single:
“'He didn’t mean it’ is a phrase I’ve heard many times throughout my life in many different contexts, describing behavior that ranges from a little careless to entirely abhorrent. What it implies is that the person being harmed, the ‘it,' is not worth the discomfort of confrontation or conflict. This song argues that it is; that it has to be. People seem to find it a lot more comforting when women sing about self harm rather than when they express anger, even just metaphorically.”
