Album: The Child
Quick Thoughts: Geowulf's debut has been long-awaited for me, and it absolutely delivers. It's a bit of country-tinged indie rock with so much going for it - great songwriting, great production, great everything. It has so many solid moments, too - "Dolly," in particular, has been in heavy rotation for me for months now. Don't miss out on this one, a great time.
Songs of Note: "Can't Read Your Mind," "Dolly," "The Child"

Album: In Love Again
Quick Thoughts: I won't lie, the Ugly Kid Joe aesthetic Ex-Vöid is going for with this album is more than just looks. Each song is like a slice of grunge from the early 1990s, and songs like "Swansea" and "Down the Drain" became instant classics for me. A great alt-rock record for the start of the year.
Songs of Note: "July," "Swansea," "Pinhead," "Down the Drain"

Album: Force Majure
Quick Thoughts: In as much as this sort of alt-power-punk is increasingly up my alley, this Australian band has not-so-quietly put out one of the better records of the young year. There's not a miss on here, but I will say that "Digging a Hole" is killer and "Exacto" doesn't feel like it should work through all the chaos and yet it's near perfect. Absolutely deserves to be in your rotation.
Songs of Note: "Digging the Hole," "Focus, Right," "Exacto"

Album: You Are the Morning
Quick Thoughts: This initially hit my radar because Phoebe Bridgers does backing vocals on "Guy Fawkes Tesco Dissociation," but I was pleasantly surprised by how much this whole album charmed me. There's a lot to love across the board, as the songwriting is crisp and the sentiment so deliberate and clear. This was a lovely listen this week.
Songs of Note: "Kitchen," "Skin on Skin," "Breaking in Reverse," "You Are the Morning," "Best Friend's House," "Guy Fawkes Tesco Dissociation," "Elephant"
Artist: Willow Avalon
Album: Southern Belle Raisin' Hell
Quick Thoughts: Willow Avalon has released a bunch of singles over the last few years, and "Drivin'" is a true favorite. The debut album from this performer is absolutely leaning into the classic country mindset with a little edge and a lot of fun. While the polish can sometimes be a barrier, it makes the more-raw weight of "The Actor" that much more significant, and "Hey There, Dolly," is an inappropirately lovely ode to our favorite country queen. Overall, a worthy debut effort.
Songs of Note: "Something We Regret," "Yodalyheewho," Country Never Leaves," "Tequila or Whiskey," "The Actor," "Southern Belle Raisin' Hell," "Gettin' Rich, Goin' Broke," "Hey There, Dolly"
