The latest from Sapling might be their most straightforward song yet, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's mainstream or accessible. "Hoping Mechanism" seems like a fairly simple song, until you realize that it includes djembe, flute, shruti box, ukulele, and more. This is one of those songs that gets more complex with every listen, which allows you to uncover more and more. It's quiet, but it still might be the angriest we've ever heard Sapling. "Hoping Mechanism" just barely contains pain and rage with lyrics like "The world is a dadaist bullshit generator." It's also the type of song that slowly builds without you even noticing. Sapling has always been an experimental band, but only they could somehow increase the experimental factor while coming the closest they've ever come to mainstream.
