MyVeronica started off as the solo project of singer/guitarist Mia Lin and has evolved into a four piece band. The band's sound draws influence from 90's rock, shoegaze, and emo, which can all be heard in their new single, "Calf." The song starts off with some midwest emo spoken word which crashes into some hardcore-esque screamed vocals. While this is all going on, the song has these absolutely gorgeous dreamy guitars over it all. It's been a while since I've heard a song achieve this level of loud/quiet/loud, and this is a perfect example of that. MyVeronica have taken some of our favorite 90's sounds and reconfigured them in a completely fresh way.
Mia Lin says of her band's latest single:
“Calf is an exploration in contrast— hard and soft, loud and quiet, life and death. I wanted to explore the ways that these contrasting parts inform each other. We buried a bunch of guitar noise and feedback under the main instrumental of the song to create a sonic duality that explores this idea further. Every track on this song plays with contrast, summing up to create the feeling of ebbing and flowing throughout the song.”
