For their upcoming album, David Wax Museum decided to get a little experimental with its recording. Secret Creature was recorded in the band's barn/studio/performance space with an audience in the balcony, making it a live album but not a live album. The first single from the album, "My Chosen One," sees David Wax Museum get back to their folk roots. It's a quiet and mostly bare bones song that still allows for the band to stretch out their sound using what appear to be horns. The song is intensely intimate and captures the feeling of some of the smaller David Wax Museum shows I've been to in a way a traditional recording studio simply can not. By getting more traditional, they've created an intense excitement on our end for their upcoming album.
You can listen to "Chosen One" below. Secret Creature is available now, but only on CD and vinyl. It will be available to stream in late December. You can order your physical copy here. For more on David Wax Museum, check out the band's website. Upcoming tour dates are below the video.
