San Francisco obviously has a long history of psychedelic music, and the latest band to emerge from that scene is Magic Fig. Consisting of members of The Umbrellas, Whitney's Playground, Almond Joy, and Healing Potpourri, Magic Fig has released a new single, "Goodbye Suzy." The single is assuredly psychedelic, but it's more of a lighter, poppier version of the genre. It sounds a little like if Belle & Sebastian started off in San Francisco instead of Glasgow. "Goodbye Suzy" is wildly compelling with the song switching tempos and styles throughout. This is psychedelia through an indie rock lens, and we are fully on board.
Lead vocalist Inna Showalter says of her band's inspiration:
"I've always been drawn to fairytales, fables, mythology, and lore, and couldn't be happier that Magic Fig has embraced that vibe. Being in this band has allowed me to embody my inner jester in a way I didn't realize was possible. I can really explore my sense of wonder and magic because the music takes me to another time and place."
