Marley Hale - "Dear Girl"

The latest from Brooklyn's Marley Hale is being described as a "spaghetti Western," and "Dear Girl" certainly fits the bill. The song is rooted in classic, vintage country, but the song isn't truly traditional. Hale's vocals seem like they would be more at home in an indie rock song, and there is something twisted about the song musically. "Dear Girl" may take a second or two for you to adjust to, like the musical equivalent of walking outside on a sunny day. But once you adjust (right about when the horns truly kick in), this is going to be a song you end up adoring. Marley Hale's take on classic country is a completely original one.

Marley Hale says of her latest single:

“I wrote ‘Dear Girl,’ while staying out in the Mojave Desert in California. Writing it was a reckoning with the gap between the person I was and the person I wanted to be, at a time when that space felt impassible, and I couldn’t reconcile the two. It’s an address to myself, but it speaks more broadly to the shame that comes with that reckoning.”
