Sam Mulligan - "Broke"
I like to think that I liked pizza quite a bit, but then Sam Mulligan came along. The Battlemode guitarist has a new solo single out about spending all of his money buying too much pizza from his upcoming pizza themed album. "Broke" is an electronic pop/chiptune/nerdcore/VGM track that sounds very different from Battlemode, but has enough similarities that fans of that band will definitely get into "Broke." Actually, if you enjoy any of the aforementioned musical genres, you're going to get into this song. It's fun, it's funny, and it certainly isn't taking itself too seriously. This is a great slice [I'm so sorry, I am ashamed of that pun] of Mulligan's upcoming album, which is guaranteed to be a great time.
Sam Mulligan says of his new single:
‘“Broke’ is about spending too much money on pizza, and then lamenting about being strapped for cash. It ventures into fantastical and extreme consequences of this, but ultimately it all ends well because you’ve still got pizza after all! We’re tackling big themes here – financial responsibility, inflation, dreams of a better future, consequences, and living with regret. It’s only partially based on real-life events. I’m doing okay, I promise.”
You can listen to "Broke" below. Pizza Forever is due out May 15 which is National Pizza Day. The album can be pre-ordered through Bandcamp. For more on Sam Mulligan, check out the artist's website.
