Fake Fruit - "Gotta Meet You"

Image
Photo by Daniel Topete Of all of the singles from Fake Fruit's upcoming album, "Gotta Meet You" sounds the most traditionally post-punk. The song is a frantic burst of discordant noise all squished together to make a mind melting mish mash. It's a bonkers song, made all the more so by Hannah "Ham" D'Amato singing as if she's in a normal rock or pop song. The whole shebang sounds like DEVO jamming with James Chance. This is sure to be one of those songs to get your co-workers to ask "What the hell are you listening to?" before turning up their bro country. But, for those of us that like this sort of thing, "Gotta Meet You" is a pure delight. You can listen to "Gotta Meet You" below. Mucho Mistrust is due out August 23 on Carpark Records, and is available for pre-order here . For more on Fake Fruit, check out the band on Instagram and Facebook . Upcoming tour dates are below the song. Thu. Sept. 26 - Los Angeles, CA @ Gol...

Fake Fruit - "Más O Menos"

Photo by Daniel Topete Oakland's Fake Fruit have just released a brand new single that is perfect for those of us overly obsessed with the music of the 90's. "Má s O Menos" is an absolute buzzsaw of a song that combines post-punk with 90's alt-rock. The guitars are just driven straight at you with a disjointed sound, and singer Hannah "Ham" D'Amato powers the song into your skull with her vocals. It's shout and spoken word heavy punk rock that is going to make you want to dance, pogo, and mosh all at once. It's hard to make a song as aggressive as "M ás O Menos" this fun and enjoyable, but most bands aren't Fake Fruit. You can watch the video for "Más O Menos" below. Mucho Mistrust is due out August 23 on Carpark Records, and is available for pre-order here . For more on Fake Fruit, check out the artist on Instagram and Facebook . Upcoming tour dates are below the video. Sun. Aug. 4 - San Francisco, CA @ Stern Grove !...

Fake Fruit - "Cause of Death"

Photo by Daniel Topete Oakland's Fake Fruit are back with a new single that helps redefine what post punk can be. "Cause of Death" starts of as a laid back post punk song that is almost ramblin'. It switches over to a louder, but still laid back alt-rock song with jangly and jerky guitars. The song is quite noisy and dissonant, but in a pleasant way. It's a fun song even though it doesn't have that dance friendly feel some music in the genre has. Despite being four minutes long, "Cause of Death" is an absolute epic song with more tempo and sonic changes than we can count.  Hannah "Ham" D'Amato says of her band's latest single: “I wrote the lyrics for this song when I felt so indecisive that I imagined someone performing an autopsy on me and declaring my cause of death to be indecision." Fake Fruit - "Mucho Mistrust"

Image
Photo by Daniel Topete Oakland's Fake Fruit have released a new post-punk track that expands on the genre. "Mucho Mistrust" has this warped guitar noise that is reminiscent of classic post-punk from bands like Gang of Four. It also has a little bit of the dance friendly style that you get from Bodega. But singer Hannah "Ham" D'Amato doesn't sing like she's fronting a post-punk band. "Mucho Mistrust" sees her crooning like Chrissie Hynde on The Pretenders' more Americana based songs. Plus, Fake Fruit let some pop hooks poke their heads into the song just a tiny bit. It's a mash up of sounds that helps create something fresh and lets the genre mutate into the future. Hannah "Ham" D'Amato says of her band's new single: “There were big life changes and I was so close to boiling over. I left a bad relationship, entered a more stable and loving one, got diagnosed with alopecia, and I'm turning 30 soon too. This song ...

Fake Fruit - "No Mutuals"

Image
Oakland's Fake Fruit are a band you need to know about right now. Their latest single, "No Mutuals," is a burst of fun post punk. While most post punk is dark and gloomy, Fake Fruit contain a party in this song... even though it has some of the dark and gloom required for post punk. Singer Hannah doesn't exactly follow traditionally styled singing. She's doing her own thing that's somewhere between a growl and actual singing, but damn if it isn't compelling. And then there's the guitar that is perfectly accompanying her while threatening to just scamper off on its own. "No Mutuals" is the kind of song you're going to remember hearing for the first time for years to come. You can watch the video for "No Mutuals" below. Fake Fruit's self-titled album will be out on March 5 on Rocks in Your Head Records, and can be pre-ordered here . For more on Fake Fruit, check them out on Facebook .
