Artist : Hansan Album : Blod eller bläck Quick Thoughts : We loved Hansan's debut record a few years back, and getting a new album from the duo of Sofia Talvik and David Floer is a very nice and welcome surprise. Blod eller bläck , translated as (I believe) "blood or ink," is as dark and mysterious as you might imagine. It's also as gorgeous as their debut and feels a little more stable and present, if that makes sense. I loved this, I'm glad it's in the world, I'm glad we got another album, make some time for it. Songs of Note : "Ett steg fram och tva tillbaks," "Om vi inte" Artist : Screaming Females Album : Desire Pathways Quick Thoughts : Can someone please tell me why Screaming Females aren't the biggest band in the universe? Screaming Females have been awesome for a while, but this album takes it to another level. Every song is a banger, and they're somehow leveling up with Desire Pathways in a way I didn't se...

Blues Lawyer - "Nowhere to Go"

Image
As with their previous single, "Chance Encounter," if you're a fan of 90's indie but mainstream leaning indie rock like The Lemonheads and Teenage Fanclub, chances are you're going to dig "Nowhere to Go." The latest from the Oakland based band has a little bit more of an edge to it while still being fun and not punk, so it's more akin to Teenage Fanclub than The Lemonheads. It's an upbeat sounding jangly indie rock song with one of the better 90's guitar solos recorded this century. It does stop a bit abruptly just after two minutes, but if our only critique is that we wanted more, that's hardly a bad thing. Guitarist/vocalist Rob I. Miller says of the new song: "This is a song about the sort of millennial malaise I've experienced as a result of being on social media. There were days during  lockdown where I was either depressed because I was doom scrolling or doom scrolling because I was depressed. Then I'd post something du...

Blues Lawyer - "Chance Encounter"

Image
Oakland's Blues Lawyer have a very specific 90's throwback sound. Their latest single, "Chance Encounter," lies in that time period between heavier grunge bands like Nirvana and Soundgarden but before the alternative rock airwaves were overtaken by more pop focused bands like Spin Doctors and Gin Blossoms. "Chance Encounter" is along the lines of Teenage Fanclub or The Lemonheads. Blues Lawyer still have that great indie rock edge, but the song is insanely poppy at the same time. It's fuzzy guitars and killer harmonies between Rob I. Miller and Elyse Schrock. This one is a ton of fun while still maintaining an indie rock edge. You can watch the video for "Chance Encounter" below. All in Good Time is due out February 17 on Dark Entries. The album can be pre-ordered through Bandcamp .
