Josie Toney - "Too Long in Life"

Image
Just last week we brought you "City Girl Blues," the latest single from Josie Toney. She's already back with a brand new single, "Too Long in Life." While her previous single was an upbeat song mixing folk, bluegrass, and blues with a little pop, this new song is more of a torch song. It's a gorgeous song that showcases Toney's vocal talents while mixing folk, jazz, and a little pop. It stops just a little short of being a power ballad, but just barely. "Too Long in Life" is a slow burner that is endlessly compelling, and just feels like a welcoming embrace. You can listen to "Too Long in Life" below. Extra is due out April 7 on Like You Mean It Records. For more on Josie Toney, check out the artist's website .

Josie Toney - "City Girl Blues"

We might best know Josie Toney best as the fiddle player for Sierra Ferrell's band, but now she's set to release her first solo album. The artist currently resides in Nashville, but her first single, "City Girl Blues," was written when she was living in Boston and missing Washington State. This is an absolutely gorgeous Americana song steeped in traditional without sounding old-timey. This debut single is a fun song about longing for home. It has elements of folk, bluegrass, and blues, and maybe just the slightest bit of pop hooks. She stood out as a member of Ferrell's band, and we can't wait to see what else she has for us! You can listen to "City Girl Blues" below. Extra is due out April 7 on Like You Mean It Records. For more on Josie Toney, check out the artist's website .

STL GLD - "Extra"

Photo via Facebook You don't think about art museum and hip hop working together very often, but most hip hop groups aren't STL GLD. In addition to their ongoing collaborations with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Boston based group recently teamed up with the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA. Over a three day period, STL GLD set up shop in Plummer Hall, which was constructed in the 1800s. The result of those three days is "Extra." The track has that laid back yet intense feel that no one pulls off quite like STL GLD does. Maybe it's just the knowledge of the song being recorded in a world class art museum, but "Extra" just feels a little more highbrow than other songs they've recorded. As always with STL GLD, the new song sounds and feels like them while moving out in a new direction. How they're still just our little secret baffles me. You can watch the making of documentary that includes the video for "Extra" below. If you're...
