The High Water Marks - "Old Farm Witches"

Image
The Highwater Marks is a musical project from Hilarie Sidney, co-founder of Elephant 6 and drummer for Apples in Stereo. It's a transatlantic project that also includes Per Ole Bratset, who Sidney met at a show in Oslo, Norway. Their latest single, "Old Farm Witches," is the kind of music you'd expect from an Elephant 6 project. It's a trippy, melodic, and pop filled indie rock song. The press release for their upcoming album lists influences that include The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Guided By Voices, and Pavement. That sums up a song like "Old Farm Witches": It's equal parts classic 60's psychedelic pop rock and 90's indie rock legends. But, if you already read "Elephant 6," you're most likely already listening to the track. You can listen to "Old Farm Witches" below. Consult the Oracle is due out May 16 on Meritorio Records, and is available to pre-order through Bandcamp . For more on The High Water Marks, check out ...

Monday Mix: Elephant Six

Image
The 33/3 blog reminded me that Bill Doss of Olivia Tremor Control , also of Sunshine Fix, Apples in Stereo, and probably all the rest, passed away a year ago last week. The Elephant Six Collective were a group of bands that really, really took up a good deal of my listening time in college and beyond, so I figured, in honor of Doss, the mix this week would highlight some songs from those bands. A fair warning to some - there's equal parts accessible (Apples in Stereo, Elf Power) and weird (Music Tapes, Major Organ and the Adding Machine), so, for best results, throw it on shuffle and enjoy the adventure.
