Big Daddy Kane and RZA - "Open Ya Eyes"

Image
The Juice Crew was a legendary hip hop collective that ran from 1983 to 1991, and featured Marley Marl, Roxanne Shante, MC Shan, Biz Markie, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, Masta Ace, and more. RZA has reunited an all-star group of The Juice Crew for an upcoming EP, and the first single sees the legendary producer/emcee team with Big Daddy Kane. "Open Ya Eyes" sees the icons taking everything great from the classic 80's hip hop scene and mixing it with the Wu-Tang Clan mastermind's style. There's a cinematic feel to the song, and this is pure classic hip hop. There are throwback elements in "Open Ya Eyes," but this is a modern take on two classic sounds. This song is as good as you expect it to be, and possibly better. RZA says of the new single: “This is a bridge between generational schools of knowledge.  Kane’s wisdom in life and rhyme meets the Wu philosophy of consciousness. Kool G Rap featuring Big Daddy Kane - "Fly Till I Die"

If you grew up with 80's and early 90's hip hop, the pairing of Kool G Rap and Big Daddy Kane is a dream come true. The two members of the Juice Crew are legends for good reason, and "Fly Till I Die" proves the two haven't lost a step at all. In a world where classic MCs tend to to release their best work as time goes on, Kool G Rap and Big Daddy Kane are the exception. "Fly Till I Die" may not have the nostalgic feel of their classic tracks, but that's kind of the point. This isn't a throwback song by any means. This is what Kool G Rap and Big Daddy Kane should be sounding like in 2022. It takes classic hip hop and updates it to the current day. You can listen to "Fly Till I Die" below. The song will be included on Kool G Rap's upcoming album Last of a Dying Breed  due out on October 14. For more on Kool G Rap, check out his Twitter . Big Daddy Kane can be found on Twitter here .

Eli Paperboy Reed featuring Big Daddy Kane - "99 Cent Dreams"

In one of the oddest (and most perfect) pairings of the year, the newest single from Eli Paperboy Reed features a verse by Big Daddy Kane. How did this pairing happen? Big Daddy Kane named Reed as one of his top 10 favorite current singers on Instagram, and the two struck up a friendship.  Their song together, "99 Cent Dreams," is one of the purest throwbacks I've heard in years. The song is pure Eli Paperboy Reed throwback classic soul, as you'd expect. It calls back to the days of your youth when you'd desperately try to scrounge up 99 cents to buy something from the store, and at that point in your life it's all you really needed. Despite it being a classic sounding soul song, once Kane's verse kicks you'll start daydreaming of the days of the late 80's/early 90's when every song needed to have a rap verse in the middle. This is pure nostalgia in every great possible way. You can watch the video for "99 Cent Dreams" (which is...
