India Ramey - "We Ride at Dawn"

Image
Photo by Stacie Huckeba For her latest single, India Ramey has chosen "We Ride at Dawn," a spaghetti western song about women's bodily autonomy being stripped away. The Nashville artist has crafted a classic country song with an unfortunately modern message. This is the kind of song that you can enjoy just on a surface level with its vintage sound. The power of the song is audible without paying attention to the lyrics, but once you focus on the words, "We Ride at Dawn" is an instant feminist anthem. Ramey has created a powerful and uplifting anthem that is much needed in 2026. You can watch the video for "We Ride at Dawn" below. Villain Era is due out May 8 on Copaco Records/Blue Elan Records. For more on India Ramey, check out the artist's website . Upcoming tour dates are below the video. 5/1 - WMOT Finally Friday @ 3rd and Lindsley - Nashville, TN 5/5 - Honky Tonk Tuesday @ Eastside Bowl - Nashville, TN 5/6 - Robert's Western World (w/ The ...

India Ramey - "Scattered and Smothered"

Image
Photo by eyeofdoll India Ramey's latest single is being described as a "Waffle House confessional," and if that doesn't make you want to listen to "Scattered and Smothered," I don't know what will. The Nashville artist has created a fun and twangy new single about being "stifled by a good man and needing to break free." One of the early lines is about "Looking like Alice Cooper in a little black dress," which might be my favorite line of the year. It's a funny song without getting too jokey, and helps move classic country into the current century. Plus, it helps capture the legend of being in a Waffle House at 2:00 am, complete with fights and drunkenness. Based on the two singles we've heard so far, we can't wait until May for India Ramey's latest album (and for this snow to finally melt...) You can listen to "Scattered and Smothered" below. Villain Era is due out May 8 on Copaco/Blue Elan Records. For more ...

India Ramey - "Welcome to My Villain Era"

Image
Photo credit: Eye of Doll It's been a while since we've heard from India Ramey, but now the country singer-songwriter is back with a new single. "Welcome to My Villain Era" is a barnburner of a song. It's as twangy as possible, and is overflowing with swagger. What's so perfect about this single is how country it is. This is true country without a hint of any modern pop country. It fits right in with classic artists like Wanda Jackson and Loretta Lynn, and modern artists like Margo Price. Plus, there's just enough of a rock edge and attitude. "Welcome to My Villain Era" is a fun, and kick ass song. India Ramey says of her upcoming album: “This album is the ‘healed’ me. I spent years as a people pleaser, not knowing how to have boundaries. I lost sight of who I really was. These songs are about reclaiming that.” You can listen to "Welcome to My Villain Era" below. Villain Era is due out May 8 on Copaco Records/Blue Elan Records. Aaron Lee Tasjan - "Dylan Shades"

Image
Photo by Shervin Lainez Aaron Lee Tasjan continues to surprise with each new single from his upcoming album. "Dylan Shades" has barely any of the alt-country that defined his sound back when we first discovered his music. (In fact, the only alt-country sound might be a little twang in Tasjan's vocals at the beginning of the song.) Instead, this new single is a synth pop power ballad that could have sounded at home on the radio thirty plus years ago. It's a gorgeous and uplifting song that truly lets Tasjan's vocals shine in a way we haven't heard before. After hearing the various singles that have been released so far off of his upcoming album, and the only artist I can think of that has genre hopped this much within one album might be Beck. Aaron Lee Tasjan says of his upcoming album: “The record became a sort of rallying cry for being who you are in a time when people literally wanna try to make it illegal to do that.  I felt like it was really important to ...

Aaron Lee Tasjan - "The Drugs Did Me"

Image
Photo by Shervin Lainez We're getting pretty used to Aaron Lee Tasjan defying all genres in his music and sounding however he wants song to song, but we weren't expecting his latest single to be a slacker anthem that would make Beck and Pavement proud. "The Drugs Did Me" is about Tasjan's past drug use and his road to sobriety, so it's far more earnest and positive than anything released in the 90's would have been allowed to be. His delivery in the song is very comparable to Beck, but musically it's somehow even more cut and paste than Beck's 90's output, while still being a cohesive song. It's like an alt-country meets electronic music and hip hop mash up that couldn't be made by anyone besides Aaron Lee Tasjan. Aaron Lee Tasjan says of his latest single: “‘The Drugs Did Me’ was written about halfway through the recording of the album. I had the whole song demoed as a sort of Nick Lowe/Rockpile type 80s rock song and it was producer G...

Aaron Lee Tasjan - "Horror of it All"

Image
Photo by Shervin Lainez Back in 2021, Aaron Lee Tasjan blew us away with Tasjan! Tasjan! Tasjan! It was my #4 album of that year, and saw Tasjan pushing the boundaries of country and alt-country further than possible. He's back with a new single that bursts through those boundaries, and keeps pushing. "Horror of it All" is a synth heavy song that is mostly pop, but also has a surprising amount of indie rock injected, too. It's a song obviously inspired by 80's synth-pop, but also 90's guitar heavy indie rock. Tasjan moves through these sounds masterfully and makes the entire thing blend together effortlessly. If we thought Tasjan! Tasjan! Tasjan! was hard to define, get ready for his next album! Aaron Lee Tasjan says of his latest single: “When I think of what scares me the most about ‘being myself,’ is that I’ll get rejected for it. This song examines the concepts of both rejection and self-acceptance through metaphors of childhood playground heartbreak and t...
