If It's Too Loud...

Photo by  Kat Nijmeddin Greet Death are a small town Michigan band formed in 2011 by elementary school friends Harper Boyhtari and Logan Gaval. For their upcoming album, the band recorded in Boyhtari's parent's basement in Davisburg, MI. The first single from the album, "Country Girl," has that sound Greet Death's fans have come to love. It's a dark version of shoegaze mired in knowledge of everyone's impending death. The song also sounds oddly organic for a shoegaze/doomgaze song. I wouldn't go as far as calling "Country Girl" folk or even folk adjacent, but there is something that makes the song sound as organic and earthy as folk music does. Plus, there is something oddly uplifting in the song, which is surprising considering how dark it is. Harper Boyhtari says the new song is about " ... identity, alienation, and detachment. Photo by David Beauthin Greet Death are a unique band. Based on their name and the fact that their latest single is called "I Hate Everything" that they'd be a punk and/or metal band. And they are... somewhat. The song starts off kinda folky, or at least on the Americana side of things. It's good, if not fairly standard fare. There is a darker side trying to hide in this song but not doing the best job. And then the noise kicks in. It starts off on the quieter end, more like standard indie rock noise.
