ELUCID & Sebb Bash - "Make Me Wise"

Image
Photo by Backwoodz Studioz For their latest collaborative single, ELUCID and Sebb Bash have released "Make Me Wise," a haunting and tense new single. What makes the song stand out is the twinkling sample used, which could be beautiful and charming other artists' hands, but not with this pairing. Plus, ELUCID's understated flow forces you to focus on the song even more, getting drawn deeper and deeper inside. I can't say that "Make Me Wise" is horrorcore, but if this was included in a scary movie it would sound a little too on the nose. ELUCID continues to be one of the most unique voices in modern hip hop, and his pairing with Sebb Bash is perfection. You can listen to "Make Me Wise" below. I Guess U Had to Be There is due out March 13 on Backwoodz Studioz, and is available for pre-order here. For more on ELUCID, check out the artist on Instagram . Upcoming tour dates with Armand Hammer are below the song and include a September 23 show at Arts...

ELUCID & Sebb Bash - "First Light"

Image
Photo courtesy of Backwoodz Studioz 2025 saw ELUCID release an album with Armand Hammer. This spring he's touring solo, and in the fall he'll be touring with Armand Hammer. Which, of course means he needs a new project. I Guess U Had to Be There sees ELUCID team with producer Sebb Bash. The first single from the album, "First Light," is about as stripped down as hip hop can possibly be. The only beats are quiet handclaps, and the instrumentation is barely there. It gives the song an intense and haunting feel, and makes you fully invested in ELUCID's vocals and flow. Not many artists could pull off a song like "First Light," but ELUCID is hardly your average artist. You can watch the video for "First Light" below. I Guess U Had to Be There is due out March 13 on Backwoodz Studioz, and is available for pre-order here . For more on ELUCID, check out the artist on Instagram .

Armand Hammer featuring Silka and Cleo Reed - "Calypso Gene"

Image
Photo by Alexander Richter For their latest single, billy woods and ELUCID (aka Armand Hammer) team with producer The Alchemist and rappers Silka and Cleo Reed. "Calypso Gene" keeps the group's stripped down and intense hip hop intact. Somehow Armand Hammer are able to have a song as laid back as "Calypso Gene" with an intensity lurking underneath. The Alchemist's production centers on minimal jazz piano and chilled out beats. 2025 has been a fantastic year overall for underground hip hop, and Armand Hammer keep pushing the genre forward. You can watch the video for "Calypso Gene" below. Mercy is due out November 7 on Backwoodz Studioz and Rhymesayers Entertainment. For more on Armand Hammer, check out the artists on Instagram .

Armand Hammer - "Super Nintendo"

Image
Photo by Alexander Richter billy woods has already released one of the albums of the year with the killer GOLLIWOG , and now he's back with new music with Armand Hammer, his project with ELUCID. "Super Nintendo" is a stripped down hip hop track that focuses on the lyrcs and flow of billy woods and ELUCID. The Alchemist's production includes music that certainly sounds like vintage video game music. In fact, there is barely anything representing a beat in "Super Nintendo." This is certainly not your traditional hip hop track, but Armand Hammer have never been your traditional hip hop group.  You can listen to "Super Nintendo" below. Mercy is due out November 7 on Backwood Studioz and Rhymesayers Entertainment, and is available for pre-order here . For more on Armand Hammer, check out the group on Instagram and Twitter .

billy woods featuring ELUCID and Cavalier - "Lead Paint Test"

Image
Photo by Natalia Vachisvili billy woods' new album is due out tomorrow, but we're so excited we can't wait the extra day, so here's a new single until then! "Lead Paint Test" has that sound that only billy woods can. Without being a throwback, its roots are in the golden age of hip hop while looking far down the road into the future of the genre. This is the anti-modern mainstream hip hop style. There aren't any samples of iconic songs, and not a shred of an R&B hook. For those of us that grew up with rap before 1995, "Lead Paint Test" is going to sound exactly what it should sound like in 2025. Plus, adding ELUCID and Cavalier is certainly not a negative thing. You can listen to "Lead Paint Test" below. Golliwog is due out May 9. For more on billy woods, check out the artist on Instagram and Twitter . Upcoming tour dates are below and include a September 17 date at Brighton Music Hall in Boston. 5/28 - Atlanta, GA @ Aisle 5 5/29 -...

ELUCID - "The World is Dog"

Image
Photo by Alexander Richter One half of hip hop duo Armand Hammer, EUCLID has released a new single on Fat Possum Records. "The World is Dog" doesn't sound anything like your typical mainstream rap song. It's much more experimental, with a layer of noise over it. It's a chaotic sound that seems like a modernized, industrial version of Public Enemy's early releases. Plus, ELUCID's flow sounds more like a stream of consciousness than anything else. It's great to hear an artist pushing the boundaries of hip hop in such a way, and ELUCID is going to be an artist we're going to keep an eye on. ELUCID says of his latest single: “ This song was written and recorded during the first session I set up with Jon.  It quickly established  REVELATOR 's sonic identity and a practice in striving for intensity. ”  You can listen to "The World is Dog" below. REVELATOR is due out October 11 on Fat Possum Records, and is available for pre-order here . For...
