Real Farmer - "9 Till Not Alright"

Image
Photo by Nick Helderman Dutch punks Real Farmer have one last single before their album comes out tomorrow (Friday May 1st). "9 Till Not Alright" is a punchy post punk track that is going to inspire more actual dancing than moshing. The song has a certain level of funk and groove you don't typically see in punk rock, as well as a certain jangle in the guitar. The punk edge comes in singer Jeroen Klootsema's vocals, which are dripping with venom. "9 Till Not Alright" has a classic post punk sound while meeting the genre in modern day. Real Farmer are a great band, and we're looking forward to hearing their full album tomorrow. Jeroen Klootsma says of his band's new single: "While we work our jobs to make a living, the upper-class monetises and profits from our labour and our struggle. From inside trading to war profiteering, illegal waste dumping and child slavery, no bar is low enough for the man in suit and tie. While they point the finger to t...

Real Farmer - "Heart Out"

Image
Photo by Nick Helderman Based in Groningen, Netherlands, Real Farmer have a new single out that will immediately grab you. "Heart Out" is a burst of proto-punk with a more modern flair. It has all the energy and raw feel of late 60's bands like The Stooges and Death, but with a more modern sheen. The guitars buzz, and the drums have a certain edge to them that we can never seem to get enough of. There is also some of the unhinged energy of DEVO propelling the song. "Heart Out" is the kind of song that you're going to either love or hate, with nothing in between. It's discordant while still being catchy and completely infectious.  Real Farmer say of their new single: "Some days the urge to give up feels insurmountable. What does art matter in a world where the sick reign and act with impunity? Are we even worthy of love?   We need to resist becoming bitter by what is happening out there. Love is the drive to do everything but also sets the intention ...

Real Farmer - "Run By Animals"

Photo by Nick Helderman Hailing from Groningen, Netherlands, Real Farmer has a new single out that sees bassist Marrit Meinema take over vocal duties. "Run By Animals" is a hard song to define, so we'll say it's mostly indie rock. Of course, that barely scratches such a haunting song that is equally intense as it is mellow. It's possibly more than a little post-punk as well, but a more organic version than we normally hear. The song feels like it's folk, although it certainly is not even folk adjacent. It's possible that the song is more folklore than anything else. "Run By Animals" is both haunting and hypnotic, and Real Farmer have something special with this one. Marrit Meinema says of the band's latest single: "We believe that we should get rid of the people currently ruling the world, decentralise power and give it back to the people."
