Hayden featuring Feist - "On a Beach"

Photo by Christie Greyerbiehl Hayden is one of those artists I forget about and then am delighted to rediscover every so often. The Toronto based artist just announced his first album in eight years and released a new single. "On a Beach" might be the most melancholy sounding song about a beach in existence, but this is Hayden, after all, so it makes sense. Starting off with 1995's Everything I Long For , "On a Beach" is one of the rare songs that sounds exactly like what you want an artist to sound like nearly thirty years into a career. The core of what you loved about Hayden in the 90's is still there, but in a much more mature and adult version. Plus, any time you add Feist into a song, you're making the right move. Hayden says of his new single and collaboration with Feist: “One afternoon February 2021 I was asleep at my piano when I received a text from my friend Leslie (Feist), inviting me to be a part of a songwriting workshop with several other ...

And the rest! Artist : Airling Album : Hard to Sleep, Easy to Dream Quick Description : Light and airy poppy singer-songwriter stuff. Why You Should Listen : Comfortable and pleasant is the name of the game here. Overall Thoughts : Airling was a pleasant surprise for me. Coming from Australia, this is an album that feels light and airy with some electronic instrumentation to go along with solid vocals. The result is a really pretty album that, on one hand, isn’t really breaking any ground, but is still quite a worthwhile listen on the other. While this might not blow your mind... Why You Should Listen : Juliana Hatfield is certainly expressing a point of view here, but it doesn't detract from the music. Overall Thoughts : This is Juliana Hatfield’s anti-Trump protest record. If you’re ...

Friday tickets are still available, and I’m surprised since Friday might be the most stacked day of the entire festival with Feist, Old Crow Medicine Show, The Mountain Goats, John McCauley, Amanda Palmer, JD McPherson, Kingsley Flood, and more. Saturday and Sunday are amazing in their own right, with The Avett Brothers, Jim James, Colin Meloy, Justin Townes Earle, Jason Isbell, Shovels and Rope, Frank Turner & the Sleeping Souls, The Lone Bellow, Hurray for the Riff Raff, and more on Saturday, while Sunday features Beck, The Lumineers, Andrew Bird, Bonnie “Prince” Billy and Dawn McCarthy, The Felice Brothers, Beth Orton, Black Prairie, Spirit Family Reunion (last year’s break out band), and more, including the just added Ramblin’ Jack Elliott. The only disappointment I’ve had with t...
