If It's Too Loud...

As soon as Cypress Hill announced the dates for this year's Haunted Hil shows, I knew I wanted to go. I had only seen Cypress Hill once way back in 2000 when they were touring with the Offspring. They were more of an opener, and it was when they were playing more as a rock band on the heels of "(Rock) Superstar," and I always had wanted to see their rap show more. And then they announced KRS-One as an opener, who I only saw once in 2004. This was at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and it seemed to be half lecture and half performance. How could I resist two of my high school favorites playing together? Ill Bill opened the show with his fellow La Coka Nostra member Slaine serving as hype man. They went on before the announced start time for a quick fifteen to twenty minute set to warm up the crowd. It's hard to review such a short set, but Ill Bill did exactly what he was there for. We'll bring you virtually anything Boston's STL GLD touches, and there is no way we could pass this one up. Leedz Edutainment put together this one, and it's a monster of a Boston hip hop track. "Massive" is a collaboration of STL GLD with Reks and Slaine, which is an absolute dream team for Boston hip hop fans. It's produced by The Arcitype, so it definitely sounds a lot like STL GLD, but STL GLD's production with Reks and Slaine rapping? "Massive" has that old school hip hop vibe while still sounding current. This one is even better than we could have expected, and our expectations were high. An interesting release week this week: Album of the Week : Artist : Beach Slang Album : A Loud Bash of Teenage Feelings Quick Description : Does what it says on the tin. Why You Should Listen : You didn't know you wanted to hear this until you got the chance. Overall Thoughts : This had some buzz around it coming in, and I didn't really expect this sort of garagey punk to resonate, but here we are. I can't say there's a ton specifically to point to in this regard, but as a cohesive whole, this was a fast-paced jolt of energy that was definitely the best listen of the week for me. Won't be for everyone, but you should give it a listen. Recommendation : The best of the week by far.
