Taxidermists - "Needles to Say"

Image
Photo by Harry Wohl Taxidermists, our favorite Massachusetts duo that met as preteens on MySpace, are set to release their latest album Friday, and have released a brand new single from that album. "Needles to Say" is going to give you some serious western Massachusetts 90's DIY lo-fi indie rock flashbacks. First, the song title sounds like it belongs to a track from thirty years ago. And then there's the sound. I mean this is a compliment in the highest form, but this sounds like a four track recording in someone's house. (Which is fairly true, since this was recorded last winter in bandmember Salvadore McNamara's garage, which the press release adorably points out that they were "braving an average temperature of  39° F." The song also seems to have some slight musical nods to the Ramones' "Needles and Pins," but that could be my imagination. In a musical landscape where most home recordings sound nearly identical to massive studio re...

Taxidermists - "Does the Wind Know"

Photo by Harry Wohl Cooper B. Handy and Salvadore McNamara met as pre-teens on MySpace back in 2007 and make music as Taxidermists. The Massachusetts based duo just released a brand new single, "Does the Wind Know." If you have a fondness for 90's DIY indie rock recordings, this one is going to resonate with you. I can't say that the song sounds like something recorded thirty years ago, but it does have the same ethos as that time period. "Does the Wind Know" is a fun lo-fi jam that comes in at just over two minutes and reminds me of a slightly more slick version of Sentridoh.  Taxidermists say of their latest single: “We sing together on the majority of this one.  It’s a winter mantra: ‘Does the wind know that you're cold?’ A love song. An ode to believing in what youʼre doing.”   You can watch the video for "Does the Wind Know" below. 20247 is due out March 7 on Danger Collective Records. Taxidermists - "Shoot"

Image
Photo by Harry Wohl Cooper B. Handy and Salvadore McNamara met as preteens on MySpace and started playing music together at the ages of thirteen and fourteen. The Massachusetts duo have a new single out today titled "Shoot." The song is an ultra DIY and shockingly groovy track that clocks in at under two minutes. The song harkens back to the DIY indie rock of early Sebadoh and Daniel Johnston without truly sounding like those artists. If you've been a fan of 90's lo-fi indie rock, you're going to immediately connect to "Shoot" while finding a truly new sound to love. Somehow Taxidermists have slipped under our radar for well over a decade, but we're thrilled to discover them now. Taxidermists say of their upcoming album: “We haven’t made a record like this in 12 years and we’ve learned so much since then. We may not put out a ton of music, but we care about the music we make.” You can watch the video for "Shoot" below. 20247 is due out Marc...
