Orcutt Shelley Miller - "Four-door Charger"

Image
Photo by Rachel Lipsitz For their latest single, the avant-rock supergroup of Bill Orcutt (Harry Pussy), Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth), and Ethan Miller (Howlin Rain, Comets on Fire) have released the nine minute epic "Four-door Charger." This new song doesn't start off all that avant-rock. It's more some straight up 70's psychedelic rock music with a Neil Young-esque guitar soloing. As the track progresses, it starts delving into more and more experimental territory. "Four-door Charger" is still a rock song, and Orcutt Shelley Miller are rock artists, so it's relatively straightforward at times, but this is a killer single that bridges the worlds of experimental music and classic rock, crossing between the two worlds multiple times throughout its nine minute length. You can listen to "Four-door Charger" below. Orcutt Shelley Miller is due out September 5 via Silver Current Records, and is available for pre-order here . Upcoming tour dates ar...

Orcutt Shelley Miller - "A Star is Born"

Photo by Rachel Lipsitz Orcutt Shelley Miller is the trio of Bill Orcutt (Harry Pussy), Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth), and Ethan Miller (Howlin Rain, Comets on Fire). The trio just released a new single off their debut album, and considering the pedigree involved, "A Star is Born" is a surprisingly straightforward rock song. That's not to say that it's not experimental, but that label is subjective. This is a fuzz-heavy six-plus minute epic of rock that dabbles in roots and wouldn't sound that out of place during a Neil Young concert. It's also trippy as hell, which you would also kind of expect. "A Star is Born" is a great introduction to an all-star trio that we'll hopefully be bringing you a lot of in the weeks to come. You can listen to "A Star is Born" below. Orcutt Sheley Miller's self-titled debut album is due out September 5 on Silver Current Records, and is available for pre-order through Bandcamp . Magic Fig - "Goodbye Suzy"

Image
Photo by Michael Cruz San Francisco obviously has a long history of psychedelic music, and the latest band to emerge from that scene is Magic Fig. Consisting of members of The Umbrellas, Whitney's Playground, Almond Joy, and Healing Potpourri, Magic Fig has released a new single, "Goodbye Suzy." The single is assuredly psychedelic, but it's more of a lighter, poppier version of the genre. It sounds a little like if Belle & Sebastian started off in San Francisco instead of Glasgow. "Goodbye Suzy" is wildly compelling with the song switching tempos and styles throughout. This is psychedelia through an indie rock lens, and we are fully on board. Lead vocalist Inna Showalter says of her band's inspiration: "I've always been drawn to fairytales, fables, mythology, and lore, and couldn't be happier that Magic Fig has embraced that vibe. Being in this band has allowed me to embody my inner jester in a way I didn't realize was possible. I ca...
