You'd think that, in a pandemic with #socialdistancing and the like, I could get my [radio edit] together and post on time. Sorry. Artist : CocoRosie Album : Put the Shine On Quick Description : The perpetually odd sister duo with a very accessible record. Why You Should Listen : It's probably the most mainstream CocoRosie effort... ever? Overall Thoughts : When "Restless" landed a few weeks back, I was kind of shocked because I could imagine this getting some love on at least independent radio. It's a far cry from their hip-hop tinged folk stuff early on, that's for sure. They're still strange and this is still a weird listen, but not that weird. It's worth some time if you've ever been interested in CocoRosie, but probably worth the time anyway. Recommendation : Give this a listen. Artist : Yumi Zouma Album : Truth or Consequences Quick Description : Latest from the alt-indie favorite. Why You Should Listen : They're just a...

A relatively slow week. Album of the Week : Artist : Deap Vally Album : Femejism Quick Description : Second album from the bass-heavy indie rock act. Why You Should Listen : Deap Vally hasn't lost a step from their awesome debut. Overall Thoughts : The worst thing about this album is its cringeworthy title, which might turn off listeners who would otherwise be really into this sort of proto-Dead Weather/DFA1979-sounding group. Lead track (and lead single) "Royal Jelly" sets the tone for a great listen, and arguably the best of the week. Recommendation : Absolutely worth a listen this week, a highlight. Artist : Dawes Album : We're All Gonna Die Quick Description : Latest album from the roots-rock act that goes a little less roots and a little more AAA rock. Why You Should Listen : Dawes knows how to write a good song even if it...

This might be the biggest new release week of the fall for me, personally, with a lot of long-awaited albums on the docket. Let's get right to it: Lorde - Pure Heroine : By now, you've almost certainly heard "Royals" (which I raved about back in August ), and 16-year-old Lorde's debut album releases today. What I find interesting about Pure Heroine is how quiet and understated it is. It's not a bad album at all, far from it - instead, it's a lot more stark than you might think given the lush vocals in "Royals." I expected a more mainstream Bjork sound, or perhaps some Portishead-style vocals, and instead it's a little safer (being so young and being a mainstream release, this isn't a surprise). It's worth a listen for sure, if only because it's probably the album of the fall, but temper your expectations. V V Brown - Samson and Delilah : V V Brown's first album, Travelling Like the Light , was a revelation in many w...
