Olive Klug & wasp eater - "Honeysuckle"

Image
Fresh of the April release of her excellent album Lost Dog , Olive Klug just released a brand new single. This new single, "Honeysuckle," is a collaboration with her friend wasp eater (aka Makena Brown). The idea came out when the friends were hanging out in a Nashville park, and Brown told Klug that honeysuckle was an invasive species, and Klug compared the beautiful plant to experienced deception in previous relationships. "Honeysuckle," the song, continues Klug's amazing run of folk pop songs, but with a bit more of a traditional folk sound. It's catchy and beautiful, much like the plant. This dichotomy of the song living in both traditional and pop worlds of music is what is going to draw you in.  You can listen to "Honeysuckle" below. The single is out now via Signature Sounds. Olive Klug - "Train of Thought"

Image
For her latest single, Olive Klug was inspired by Paul Simon's "musical magical chaos." "Train of Thought" has that sound where it seems to mimic a train chugging around while Klug does that rambin' thing with her lyrics. It's an upbeat song about what it's like being neurodivergent. It's an upbeat and fun folk song that our readers are going to find irresistible. Klug has this ability to release perfect little singer-songwriter songs, and "Train of Thought" is another example of this. As I said with previous single "Taking Punches from the Breeze," Klug isn't reinventing the genre, but she is perfecting it. Olive Klug says of her new single: “I broke out of my usual literal storytelling lyrical style and broke into the world of abstract metaphors. With lyrics like 'and they try to button up my suit and tie in an attempt to hold me back but I’m this strange old conductor wearing pearls and a backwards baseball cap'...

Olive Klug - "Taking Punches from the Breeze"

Olive Klug isn't reinventing the folk or singer-songwriter genres on their latest single. Instead, they're perfecting the genre. "Taking Punches from the Breeze" is a gorgeous slice of folk-pop. It starts off as a pretty song, stripped back with only guitar and vocals. Once more instruments come in, the song truly starts to shine. Also, Klug adds in some elements that keep the song from merely being folk-pop. It's more like a kind of alt-folk-pop. This one is impossibly catchy with an upbeat sound that we could all use these days. Based on how great of a song "Taking Punches from the Breeze" is, Olive Klug is the type of artist you're going to want to keep an eye on. Olive Klug says that her new single is about  “aging as a neurodivergent free spirit. As a young touring musician with a propensity for adventure, this instinct towards leaning into the breeze has gotten me into some tough situations, tired me out, and made me generally confused about my...
