Photo by Michelle Mercado Mamalarky just signed with Epitaph Records and have released a new single of their unique style of indie rock. "Nothing Lasts Forever" is a mostly chill version of dance friendly, quirky indie rock. The vocals are as smooth as R&B while the music has this oddly jerky feel to it. The song is so close to being a mainstream dance/pop music song, but Mamalarky just infuse their own unique style into their music that keeps everything interesting. The closest artists I can compare this to are Guerilla Toss and Rubblebucket. "Nothing Lasts Forever" is a fun and beautiful new track that is sure to suck listeners in through multiple listens. The duo of Jon Rauhouse and Blaine Long have had different paths in music. Rauhouse has been Neko Case's longtime guitarist, released a duets album with Eric Bachmann, and has been a member of Grievous Angels. Blaine Long came to prominence as a contestant on The Voice . The two have paired together on an upcoming album, and just released a new single. "Nothing Lasts Forever" has that perfect mainstream neo-folk sound. It's not quite folk-pop since it's rooted to much in traditional folk, but this is just about as pop as traditional folk can be. It's a little bit ramblin', and just has that laid back warm sound that sucks you in. In particular, the slide guitar on "Nothing Lasts Forever" is one of the warmest around and nearly hypnotic. Photo by Donald Milne Scotland's Teenage Fanclub have been indie darlings since forming in 1989, so they have a ton of credibility, and have had it for decades. Their latest single, "Foreign Land," sees the band mellowing out a bit and going slightly into a more Americana laced territory. The song gives off some serious Wilco vibes, with harmonies more along the lines of The Band. The whole thing is more psychedelic than indie rock, but it keeps the band's power pop roots intact. It's a fun and rambling song that may surprise fans of their 90's albums, but if you're ready to embrace Teenage Fanclub as dad rock (with some killer organ work!), "Foreign Land" will be perfect for you.
