Recorded during the sessions for last year's phenomenal Expert in a Dying Field, "Watching the Credits" was left off that album, but luckily The Beths have decided to release the song as a standalone single. "Watching the Credits" is an indie rock power pop song that barrels along for it's three minute run time. The song is about frontwoman Elizabeth Stokes' habit of learning about movies without watching them. What's phenomenal about this song is how cinematic it is for a three minute pop song. It's almost done in three acts with a build, a climax, and an ending. It even has some strings just to tug at your emotions. If it isn't my imagination coming up with this concept, "Watching the Credits" is a wonderfully clever song that is quickly becoming one of my all time favorites from The Beths.
You can listen to "Watching the Credits" below. For more on The Beths, check out their website. Upcoming tour dates are below the video, including a stop at In Between Days Festival in Quincy, MA on August 19.

Photo by Ebru Yildiz Somehow TORRES keeps surprising us with her music. The musical project of Mackenzie Scott has released a new single that features her vocals and acoustic guitar that would feel at home in a neo-folk song over a pre-programmed drum beat with sounds that at times are either a light squall of guitar feedback and electronic noises. The song has this haunting and unsettling feeling to it, despite sounding like it's trying to be upbeat. I'd say art doesn't always have to be a pleasant experience, but "I got the fear" can be a pleasant listening experience, except for the times it's not. Mackenzie Scott says of her latest single: “A collective dread has been mounting. Everyone I know is having a brawl with the universe, with themselves…wars, climate catastrophe, a pandemic, the worldwide regression on human rights, the political hellscape — it affects everybody, and I know we’re all feeling it in waves of varying degree all the time. I think it’s...
Miranda and the Beat recently relocated from New York City to New Orleans. Their latest single, "Can't Take It," is still the same vintage style of punk that we've come to love from them, but with more of an R&B twist. The song's roots are planted in early garage rock from bands like ? and the Mysterians, but a much darker version. The whole thing is a unique mash up of garage rock, punk, and darkwave. As dark as "Can't Take It" is, it's still a fun punk rock song that is going to inspire a mixture of pogoing and dancing at live shows. Miranda Zipse says of her band's latest single: “While recording the album at Moon Studios in Germany, King Khan played us some old King Khan and BBQ Show demos, including a skeleton voice memo with the phrase ‘Can’t Take It.’ The music came together effortlessly, and by the end of the day, we were all shouting ‘Can’t Take It’ at the top of our lungs. The video was easy for us to shoot because I was gen...
Photo by Elinor Kry Wisp is one of the more interesting artists out there today. She's a shoegaze artist that injects a surprising amount of pop into her sound, but is also heavy enough to play with artists like System of a Down, Korn, and Avenged Sevenfold. Her latest single, "Save me now," might be one of her most pop based songs yet, but it also might be the heaviest. Her vocals are pure pop, or at the very least pure dream pop. But the guitars are crunchy and heavy, leaning deeply towards the world of grunge. It creates this unique blend of shoegaze, dream pop, grunge, and pop into a sound unlike anyone else out there today. Wisp says of her latest single: '"Save me now' represents the desperation for attention, sometimes mistaken as love, when you are in a lonely and vulnerable place. It’s about being infatuated with the idea of a savior that blindly leads you to making sacrifices on your wellbeing." You can listen to "Save me now" below...
