Every now and then I make the mistake of reading too much of a press release before listening to a song, and I did that with "Anyway" from La Sécurité. The new song from the Montreal art punk band is compared to a mixture of The B-52s and Yeah Yeah Yeahs... and that pretty much nails it. "Anyway" has all of the exuberance of a classic B-52s track mixed with a more modern sound (and some of the darkness of) Yeah Yeah Yeahs. There is a ton of New Wave/post punk groove in this song, and it's the perfect example of a sad song that you're still going to want to dance to, either in spite of or because of the mood.
Singer Éliane Viens-Synnott says of her band's new song:
“This song was written in the early stages of dealing with grief related to miscarriage and pleads a sort of surrender to the strain it can put on a couple processing it.”
You can watch the video for "Anyway" below. Stay Safe! is due out June 16 on Mothland, and can be pre-ordered over at Bandcamp. For more on La Sécurité, check out the band on Facebook and Instagram.
