Slothrust were always one of those bands that I liked but didn't quite love. I felt like I should like them more, especially since they were frequent tour mates of Weakened Friends, who have long been a favorite of mine. That all changed when I saw Slothrust this past summer at In Between Days (with Weakened Friends' Annie Hoffman on bass!) and it just clicked for me. I suddenly found myself diving back into their catalog with a newfound appreciation, and couldn't wait to see them again. I was thrilled when they announced their Of Course You Did tenth anniversary tour... until I realized that they were only playing the west coast. Luckily, they just announced east coast dates including a May 4 show at The Sinclair in Cambridge, MA! It's sure to be a perfect night of indie rock with two bands that are now favorites around here.
You can find tickets for Slothrust's Of Course You Did tenth anniversary tour here. All upcoming tour dates with Weakened Friends are below.

Photo by Ebru Yildiz Somehow TORRES keeps surprising us with her music. The musical project of Mackenzie Scott has released a new single that features her vocals and acoustic guitar that would feel at home in a neo-folk song over a pre-programmed drum beat with sounds that at times are either a light squall of guitar feedback and electronic noises. The song has this haunting and unsettling feeling to it, despite sounding like it's trying to be upbeat. I'd say art doesn't always have to be a pleasant experience, but "I got the fear" can be a pleasant listening experience, except for the times it's not. Mackenzie Scott says of her latest single: “A collective dread has been mounting. Everyone I know is having a brawl with the universe, with themselves…wars, climate catastrophe, a pandemic, the worldwide regression on human rights, the political hellscape — it affects everybody, and I know we’re all feeling it in waves of varying degree all the time. I think it’s...
Photo by Elinor Kry Wisp is one of the more interesting artists out there today. She's a shoegaze artist that injects a surprising amount of pop into her sound, but is also heavy enough to play with artists like System of a Down, Korn, and Avenged Sevenfold. Her latest single, "Save me now," might be one of her most pop based songs yet, but it also might be the heaviest. Her vocals are pure pop, or at the very least pure dream pop. But the guitars are crunchy and heavy, leaning deeply towards the world of grunge. It creates this unique blend of shoegaze, dream pop, grunge, and pop into a sound unlike anyone else out there today. Wisp says of her latest single: '"Save me now' represents the desperation for attention, sometimes mistaken as love, when you are in a lonely and vulnerable place. It’s about being infatuated with the idea of a savior that blindly leads you to making sacrifices on your wellbeing." You can listen to "Save me now" below...
Photo by Windy Timana We don't share a ton of electronic dance music here at If It's Too Loud..., but sometimes something hits just right. DJ Haram is set to release her debut album and has released the first single. "Voyeur" is definitely a dance song. It has an impossible to resist beat, despite not sounding anything like what I typically associate with modern electronic dance music. It also doesn't sound like the electronica or techno from my brief club days in the 90's. This is a new brand of dance music (for me at least). Plus, "Voyeur" sounds dark. There is a sense of foreboding and danger ingrained in the song. It's kind of like if you could dance to the It Follows soundtrack, but with maybe less synth. DJ Haram describes her new single as: “the voices in my head screaming wordlessly while I’m at the center of a mosh pit on research chemicals. Someone is like — ‘you're gonna make it boo, promise, just wait it out’ — but the future doe...
