cootie catcher - "Quarter Note Rock"

Image
Photo by Colin Medley Toronto's cootie catcher have one last single before their album comes out this week. "Quarter Note Rock" is just a tiny bit too heavy to be twee. It's a pretty little song somewhere in between indie pop and indie rock. It's a perfect song for a little dance or just to sway slightly. It's a little too peppy to be dream pop, but it's really close. We've been loving cootie catcher's singles that we've heard so far, and this one seems a little extra special. It's the kind of song that gets a little more rockin' as it goes on, but so slowly that you won't even realize it until the drums take over towards the end. "Quarter Note Rock" is something truly special, and we're waiting for their album with even more anticipation. Guitarist/singer Nolan Jakupovski says of the band's latest single: “‘Quarter Note Rock’ is about putting yourself out there on public display and not expecting perfection. Often...

cootie catcher - "Puzzle Pop"

Photo by Colin Medley We've been looking forward to the upcoming album from cootie catcher, and the Toronto band's latest single has not changed that at all. "Puzzle Pop" fits nicely into the indie rock meets indie pop sound the band has crafted on previous singles "Gingham Dress" and "Straight Drop." It's upbeat and breezy, but I'm also sensing some melancholy on this one. Plus, there's this interesting point where they loop and sample themselves, giving the whole song an oddly quirky feel. More than the previous singles, "Puzzle Pop" has a roots music vibe to match with the indie rock/pop sound. This is an interesting little song that's going to win cootie catcher over some fans, and get all of us even more excited for their upcoming full length. Singer/guitarist Nolan Jakupovski says of the band's new single: “It’s a song about how I should ask more from people but I don’t." You can watch the video for "Pu...

cootie catcher - "Straight Drop"

Photo by Colin Medley Toronto's cootie catcher have a new single out from what could be the album of the year for 2026. "Straight Drop" is an energetic but laid back slice of indie rock. It's filled with jangly guitars and edges into the world of pop quite a bit. Bouncy just begins to describe this song. It's going to remind you of The Beths, but somehow more pop and more punk at the same time. "Straight Drop" is an addictive song that is going to get more so with each and every listen. Luckily, when a song is as good as this one is, you certainly won't mind. Now is a perfect time to hop on the cootie catcher bandwagon with us... it's going to be filling up very quickly. Singer/bassist Anita Fowl says of the band's latest single: "This one came from frustration of being vulnerable in the 'wrong' places. I can fully have a cry in front of strangers while taking the bus but then clam up when I'm in front of people I'm close...
