Now That's What I Call Heartbreak Volume 7: Songs from the Movies

Image
To benefit Music Organizers of the North Shore (MOON), they've put out a monster thirty three song covers compilation. This is the seventh installment of the Now That's What I Call Heartbreak  series, and this one focuses on songs that were featured in movies. With the compilation featuring thirty three songs and bands, it's impossible to cover the entire thing, but there are some great covers here by tons of bands we love. You get Megan from Work's rendition of Belinda Carlisle's "Heaven is a Place on Earth," Astral Bitch taking on The Psychedelic Furs' "Pretty in Pink," Coffin Salesman with an unexpected version of Kelly Clarkson's "Already Gone," TIFFY taking on The Cardigans' "Lovefool," and many, many more. We've already discovered some favorites on this one, including Dead Wife's version of The Cure's "Lovesong" and Little Low with their take on Better Than Ezra's "Good." I...

TIFFY - "Mirror"

Image
Photo by Cam Cavagnaro Boston's TIFFY is back with more "fuzz tinged dream rock!" "Mirror" is the artist's latest single, and is a dreamy indie rock song just dripping with pop. The song seems to cycle through styles, never quite letting you feel comfortable with just one song while keeping the vibe constant throughout. It's starts off as a fun pop rock track, and then adds in a surf rock and doo wop sound, punk pops in at one point, and some 80's rock guitars make an appearance before being replaced by a more indie rock sound. "Mirror" is a great song that is complicated enough for the music snobs and catchy enough for more pop focused fans. Tiffany Sammy (aka TIFFY) says of her latest single: " The song is about the comfortability people feel maintaining the status quo. " You can watch the video for "Mirror" below.  2 is due out August 2. For more on TIFFY, check out the artist on Instagram and Facebook .

NICE, a fest Announces Their 2024 Line-Up!

Image
Taking place in Somerville, NICE, a fest has been slowly growing and becoming one of the go-to festivals every year despite an increasingly stacked festival schedule. This will be their fourth year, and hyperbole aside, they've grown even bigger and more impressive for 2024. This year will see over eighty bands with ties to Boston playing over four days. They're back to Crystal Ballroom at Somerville Theater and The Rockwell for 2024, but they've added a larger outdoor stage for Saturday at the Grove Street lot. The line-up is stacked and features many of our favorites. Vundabar, Palehound, Model/Actriz, Dutch Tulips, Hannah Mohan, House of Harm, Burp, Jake McKelvie, Sweet Petunia, Noble Dust, TIFFY, Vivid Bloom, Zip-Tie Handcuffs, and many, many more are playing. Every single time I look at the poster I notice a band I had previously missed and get even more excited for! And there are still two unannounced bands that are pretty high up on that poster, so let the speculatio...

TIFFY - "Lost in the Shuffle"

Image
Photo by Clover Nahabedian Boston's favorite "soft punk" TIFFY has a new single out, and it's shockingly pop, even by her standards. "Lost in the Shuffle" is more of a pop and dance track than the previous singles we've heard from the artist's upcoming album. It's a dreamy track that might be more sway-able than danceable. But the song has a distinct groove that still falls into the soft punk category. It reminds me a little of if Palehound decided to go disco. "Lost in the Shuffle" is the kind of song that is both beautiful and fun, which can be rare in the world of music. You can watch the video for "Lost in the Shuffle" below. So Serious is due out November 3 on Totally Real Records/Dollhouse Lightning, and is availabkle for pre-order through Bandcamp . For more on TIFFY, check out the artist's website . Upcoming tour dates are below the video. Sat 11/4 - Loading Dock Littleton, NH Thu 11/9 - Nova Arts Keene, NH Fri 11/...

TIFFY - "In Jest"

Image
Photo courtesy TIFFY What makes TIFFY such a special artist is that she doesn't quite sound like anyone else. The Boston artist's self-proclaimed "soft-punk" sound has roots in some of our favorite musicians, but TIFFY (aka Tiffany Sammy) just has her own sound. Her latest single, "In Jest," is a mid-tempo song song with crunching guitars and cymbal heavy drums that has roots planted firmly in the worlds of both alt-pop and indie rock. If we're forced to compare the song to any other artists, we'd go with Speedy Ortiz and Green album era Weezer. "In Jest" is a rock song, but it's also a pop song without being pop rock or pop punk. TIFFY is just her own thing. You can watch the video for "In Jest" below. So Serious  is due out November 3 via Totally Real Records/Dollhouse Lightning, and is available for pre-order through Bandcamp . For more on TIFFY, check out the artist on Facebook and Instagram . TIFFY - "Don't Take It Personally"

Image
Photo courtesy TIFFY Boston's finest "soft punk" artist is set to release her debut album! TIFFY (aka Tiffany Sammy) just released a single from the album, and "Don't Take It Personally" helps define the "soft punk" genre. The new single is a cheery pop song with all of the melody and upbeat cheeriness you would expect from a pop song. But there is an unmistakable punk edge to the song, particularly in some unexpected dissonance that lurks throughout the entire song. TIFFY has a very DIY feel to her music despite a song like "Don't Take It Personally." But that's what makes TIFFY such a special artist that won't be our little secret much longer. You can watch the video for "Don't Take It Personally" below. So Serious is due out November 3 on Totally Real Records/Dollhouse Lightning. For more on TIFFY, check out the artist on Facebook and Instagram . Upcoming tour dates are below the video. Sat 11/4 - Loading Doc...

TIFFY - "Social Sliding"

Image
Photo by Cam Cavagnaro TIFFY (aka Tiffany Sammy) is a Boston based multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer. Her latest single, "Social Sliding," fits into her self-described sound of soft punk. The song is a gloriously DIY mixture of pop, dream rock, and punk. TIFFY is definitely pop leaning, but there is just enough of an edge with a song like "Social Sliding" to keep things interesting. That might be the true charm of TIFFY as an artist: No one sounds quite like her. There are some strong and obvious influences with her music, but it's all put together in a completely unique way in songs that only she could write. Even if "Social Sliding" doesn't work for you right away, I urge you to keep listening to the end. This is the kind of song that could very well end up winning you over. Tiffany Sammy says of the new song: "T he song is about feeling like you're sliding around in a social scene, losing something you had before or feelin...
