TIFFY - I Wanted to Know

Boston's favorite "soft punk" is back with a new EP. Last Friday saw the release of I Wanted to Know, the latest from TIFFY. It's a collection of three songs (one is an intro and "Scam Likely" has two different versions) that may just be TIFFY's finest to date. "IRB" features Sadie Dupuis (Speedy Ortiz, Sad13) and has a 1990's a;t-rock/power pop goes 2020's pop sound. "Scam Likely" is a mellow indie rocker meets pop with a killer guitar solo about receiving scam phone calls. "Drive Thru Deja Vu" is the most rock based track on I Wanted to Know and sounds like it could have been Weezer's best 00's song. This is a fun release, and it features everything we've come to love from TIFFY over the last few years.

Glixen - "all tied up"

This new single might be the most classically shoegaze song they've released to date. It sounds like it could be a lost song from the Loveless sessions. It's filled with a heavy wall of fuzz and lumbers along at a midtempo pace. As always, Aislinn Ritchie's vocals have a slight pop sheen to them, even if they tend to take a backseat to the music surrounding her. This mixed with the absolutely punishing drums throughout "all tied up" make it a heavy shoegaze instant masterpiece. TORRES - "I got the fear"

The musical project of Mackenzie Scott has released a new single that features her vocals and acoustic guitar that would feel at home in a neo-folk song over a pre-programmed drum beat with sounds that at times are either a light squall of guitar feedback and electronic noises. The song has this haunting and unsettling feeling to it, despite sounding like it's trying to be upbeat. I'd say art doesn't always have to be a pleasant experience, but "I got the fear" can be a pleasant listening experience, except for the times it's not. Daisy the Great - "Ballerina"

Photo by Alexa Ondrush The latest single from Daisy the Great is a delightful burst of punk-ish energy. "Ballerina" combines punk rock with pop in a way we haven't quite heard. It's kind of like if The Donnas were both more raw and more pop. Plus, "Ballerina" is incredibly theatrical. It sounds like it's taken off of some unreleased punk rock Broadway musical. Not many bands can pull off raw punk at the same time as theatrical musical, but Daisy the Great prove it can be done, and done amazingly well. This is an infectious song that you'll instantly love, and immediately want to hear again just to make sure you heard it right the first time.
