Montreal based Japanese psych rock band TEKE::TEKE have released a new single, and it's a new level of cool in music. "Doppelganger" has this groove filled sound that fills out this up tempo ballad. Vocalist Maya Kuroki is just crooning over this lush song that feels both retro and modern at the same time. As beautiful and sentimental as the song is, it's barely masking an edge and a sense of anxiousness. This is the kind of song that could inspire the next Quentin Tarantino epic. It's also the kind of song that you're going to get more and more into with each repeated listen. There is just too much going on in "Doppelganger" to take in all at once.
Guitarist and primary composer Sei Nakauchi Pelletier says of the new song:
"Being of mixed Japanese and French-Canadian culture, I always feel like in some way I’m living two parallel lives…a big part of me is here in Canada, obviously, but another part of me is on the other side of the planet ... this could be said about most of us in this band."
You can watch the video for "Doppelganger" below. Hagata is due out June 9 on Kill Rock Stars, and can be pre-ordered here. For more on TEKE::TEKE, check out the band's website.
