Already Dead are quickly becoming the premier indie blue collar Boston punk band, and their latest single further instills that. "Landlord" is a ragged acoustic folk-punk anthem about the continuing financial insecurity many of us feel. It's far from a cheerful song, with guitarist/lead singer Dan Cummings' vocals providing an audible gut punch. Punk isn't supposed to always be a pleasant listen, and "Landlord" is a song built on pure emotion and discomfort. This is a song about a struggle, and you can hear that throughout.
Dan Cummings says of the new song:
“I guess you could say ‘Landlord’ is all about a feeling. The feeling of just getting by in life, with the looming knowledge that you’re one bad month, or even week, from falling behind. I’ve certainly lived with this before. Bills are paid, life is stable, but you still know that if you take any type of hit – financial, personal, whatever – it could still fall like a deck of cards. But you keep pushing, and keep those lights on.”
