"Train in Motion" is everything we love about Cape Crush. It's a fast paced and highly catchy track. It's totally a rock track, but one that you can easily dance to. What's interesting is that the song feels like a power ballad despite being far too fast and energetic for that. "Train in Motion" is perfect for any lapsed emo or pop punk fans. It's that perfect updated version and more mature than you normally hear with those genres. Cape Crush might be so beloved around here since they sound like a grown up version of some of our favorite genres. "Come Shed Your Light on Me" starts off in a more mellow style. It's kind of like that more mainstream, VH1 style alt-rock from the later 90's. (I know that sounds derogatory, but I promise it's not!) When the more pop punk/emo sound kicks in, it's more along the lines of power pop. "Come Shed Your Light on Me" is an emotional and powerful song along the lines of The Beths and Weakened Friends (two of our favorites around here). "Place Memory" is an upbeat track that lands somewhere between Midwest emo, power pop, and pop punk. The harmonies in this one are outstanding, and it might be the catchiest song we've covered so far this year. You know it's a killer song when the guitar riffs are just as catchy as the chorus, and that's the case with "Place Memory." This one is reminding me of if The Beths leaned a little more into emo earlier in their career. Photo by Cat Meade One of our favorite emo/pop punk bands are back with a new single. "Calm & Delivered" is the latest from Massachusetts' own Cape Crush. It fits right into their melodic world of those two genres, plus it adds plenty of alt-rock into the mix as well. That's what always makes Cape Crush stand out from the pop punk/emo pack. It's much more in the style of 90's mid-western emo than the TRL friendly style that erupted in the 00's. That's not to say that "Calm & Delivered" doesn't have a ton of pop hooks in it. This is an insanely catchy noise that you're going to welcome having burrowed in your skull for the next week or so.
