I had seen the name Home Despot kicking around Boston for a little while now. Based on the name, I assumed they were some form of snotty noise punk. They sent over info for their new single, and based on the artwork (see below) and the name of the song, I thought I assumed correctly. Then I listened to "Ultra Violence" and I had to double check to make sure I had clicked on the right link. "Ultra Violence" is a gorgeous singer/songwriter tune. It's lushly arranged in a way that is more dream pop or shoegaze than it is folk. Sophia Belle's voice will just suck you right in, in the best possible way. Right when you're expecting the song to fade out and leave you wonderfully happy with how it all turned out, a "1, 2, 3, 4!" is called out and it turns into a crashing alt-rock jam. "Ultra Violence" hits so many of my personal buttons that I can't help but love it.
You can listen to "Ultra Violence" below. The song is currently available on Home Despot's Bandcamp. For more on Home Despot, check out the artist's Facebook and Instagram.
