Western Massachusetts indie rock favorites The True Jacqueline have appeared to change their name to True Jackie and released a new five song EP! If you've been following indie rock as a genre for any length of time, you'll know that Western MA has a very specific sound to it. The songs on Oh Um are one of the best examples of that sound you've heard in years. It's five songs that are equal parts noisy and catchy. "Self Help" is a fuzzed out three and a half minute burst. "Chicken on Tap" starts out like a noise rock outburst before reaching a new extreme of loud/quiet/loud. "Alien TV" is undeniably pop filled power pop over a buzzsaw of a guitar. True Jackie have created this sound that reminds me of late 80's/early 90's indie rock mixed with the more pop side of alt rock from the mid 90's. If you love Western Mass indie rock as a genre or have a certain fondness for that time period, you'e going to need to check out Oh Um.
