Hot Mustard - "Butcher Block"

Back in November we brought you "Mustard Green," the latest single from instrumental duo Hot Mustard. They are back with another new single that heavily borrows from late 60's/early 70's funk and soul along with the golden age of hip hop. "Butcher Block" reminds me a lot of sound collage mixes, which tend to sample heavily from classic soul, funk, and hip hop. The main difference is that this isn't a sonic collage but live instruments. The result is a mixture of those three genres along with jazz, giving the whole song a certain retro cool vibe while still sounding new and fresh. It's a song that is impossibly cool and also its own unique version of fun.

You can watch the video for "Butcher Block" below. Seconds is due out March 31 on Color Red. The album can be pre-ordered here. For more on Hot Mustard, check out the band's website.
