Jeff's Best of 2024 - #3: Virgins - nothing hurt and everything was beautiful

There is absolutely somewhat of a shoegaze resurgence bubbling under the indie world, and I'm very much here for it. Especially, I should have, if Virgins are leading the charge.

Virgins released an EP last year, but this debut full-length from the Irish fivesome deserves to put them on the map. From opener "s o f t e r" through songs like "d i s a p p e a r e r," you're hearing something that is very familiar, but is doing it at such a higher level in the early going that it's a real treat. It's loud, it's abrasive, and it's addictive: the only albums I spent more time of from this year were my #2 and #1, and I'm still not tired of it.

This deserves to be celebrated, not overlooked. It's absolutely one of my favorites this year.

Songs of note: "s o f t e r," "d i s a p p e a r e r," "s u n s p o t s," "s l o w l y,l o n g"
