Khatumu - "Clothes On"

Khatumu is a first generation American, Sierra-Leonean-German artist, and she just released a new single. "Clothes On" is a mix of folk and pop music that lives in both the mainstream and the world of music snobs. It's the kind of song that is undeniably great. It kind of sounds like if the members of boygenius went a little more country, but stopping just short of being actual country. "Clothes On" is an intensely intimate song, and as slick as the production is, it still has the feel of a confessional bedroom DIY song. Khatumu is the kind of artist that could end up being huge, and you're going to want to hop on her bandwagon as early as possible.
Khatumu says of her latest single:
"I wrote 'Clothes On' with my then-boyfriend right after our first explosive fight in his car. As luck would have it, he was also one of my producers at the time, and we had a session scheduled immediately after — no time to cool off, no real chance to process what had just happened. We sat down to work, and the tension in the room was so off that it somehow became on. That became the pattern for the rest of the relationship: sex as a band-aid for problems that ran much deeper than either of us wanted to look at."
