Benny the Butcher - "Summer 25"
Last August, Buffalo, NY based rapper Benny the Butcher released Summertime Butch , and this year sees the follow up, Summertime Butch 2. The first single from the upcoming album is "Summer 25," which might be a perfect summer hip hop single for 2025. The song still has the laid back vibe needed in a song about the summer, but with an edge to it that fits this year. It's chill while acknowledging that things could go wrong at any point. Plus, it features a sample from Jonathan Richman's "That Summer Feeling," which is the first time I've ever noticed a Jonathan Richman sample in a hip hop song.
