STL GLD - "Extra"

Photo via Facebook

You don't think about art museum and hip hop working together very often, but most hip hop groups aren't STL GLD. In addition to their ongoing collaborations with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Boston based group recently teamed up with the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA. Over a three day period, STL GLD set up shop in Plummer Hall, which was constructed in the 1800s. The result of those three days is "Extra." The track has that laid back yet intense feel that no one pulls off quite like STL GLD does. Maybe it's just the knowledge of the song being recorded in a world class art museum, but "Extra" just feels a little more highbrow than other songs they've recorded. As always with STL GLD, the new song sounds and feels like them while moving out in a new direction. How they're still just our little secret baffles me.

You can watch the making of documentary that includes the video for "Extra" below. If you're in a rush and only have time for the song, it starts around 15:00. For more on STL GLD, check out the artist's website.
