Album: In the Age of Doubt
Quick Thoughts: If the Squirrel Nut Zippers and Trampled By Turtles had a baby that fell in love with Murderfolk, they might turn out as The Bridge City Sinners. It's an angsty, catchy, rootsy listen with a lot of fun bits to go along with it on the whole. "Spears and Blades" is what truly won me over, but the whole thing feels like a new and fresh sound despite the common instrumentation and influences. Really great listen, especially in a relatively quiet week.

Album: Queen of Eyes
Quick Thoughts: What a lovely, gorgeous surprise this was. I tripped over this late in the weekend and was floored by how fragile and beautiful the whole thing is. This is an artist duo who apparently also do puppet performance with their music, and it seems like the sort of cross-pollination that might not always translate properly. Even so, the music here, as delicate and stark as it is, retains its deep and resonant feel throughout its runtime. I loved so much of this, and can't wait to get back to it.

Album: My Light, My Destroyer
Quick Thoughts: Wanted to highlight this record from Cassandra Jenkins, which has a soaring, epic feel to the sort of pop songwriting that Jenkins is so good at. We liked her 2021 effort here, and it made a lot of year end lists, but I think this one might be even better. There's a lot to love here, but a key highlight for me, at least, was "Betelgeuse," which felt like a perfect song for the moment. Don't miss out on this one.
