Cornwall based multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Rosalie James has just released a new single that's a must listen. "Girl I Was" fits into the whole indie rock meets alt-pop sound that is all the rage, but James puts her own spin on the sound. It's much less folk-ish than most artists in the genre, and a lot more theatrical than you usually get. The song is lush and feels huge despite being a personal and intimate track. It has a Phoebe Bridgers meets The Last Dinner Party sound to it, and it namechecks Egon Spangler, and you can never go wrong with that.
Rosalie James says of her music:
"There is so much I want to say, and the depths of terminal sadness and fleeting joy can only be properly expressed through music – any other form of communication is corrupted by confusion and doubt. Maybe feeling too much is actually feeling exactly the right amount when you’re trying to make something meaningful. Anyway, I can’t stop now."
You can watch the video for "Girl I Was" below. Full of Chemicals is due out in June. For more on Rosalie James, check out the artist on Instagram and Facebook.
