We've been huge fans of Lucy Dacus here (as we all should be), and her Home Video from earlier this year is sure to be a strong contender for our album of the year. "Thumbs" is an incredibly strong song from that album with its ultra-bare bones sound and almost non-existent instrumentation. Dacus has just released a new version of the song, "Thumbs Again." This reworking is a full band version, but if this was the version we heard on the album we'd still be describing it as bare bones. The song is a little more fleshed out here, and is most likely closer to the current live version her Dacus' full band. Despite the added instrumentation, "Thumbs Again" doesn't lose any of the intimacy from the original "Thumbs."
You can watch the video for "Thumbs Again" below. You can get your copy of Home Video here. For more on Lucy Dacus, check out the artist's website. Upcoming tour dates are below the video.

Photo by Jocelyn Pacheco Phoenix's Glixen have quickly become our favorite heavy shoegaze band, and songs like "all tied up" will show you exactly why. This new single might be the most classically shoegaze song they've released to date. It sounds like it could be a lost song from the Loveless sessions. It's filled with a heavy wall of fuzz and lumbers along at a midtempo pace. As always, Aislinn Ritchie's vocals have a slight pop sheen to them, even if they tend to take a backseat to the music surrounding her. This mixed with the absolutely punishing drums throughout "all tied up" make it a heavy shoegaze instant masterpiece. Aislinn Ritchie says of her band's latest single: “‘all tied up’ is about feeling completely consumed by someone. We definitely wanted the song to feel enveloping. There’s a subtle tension that builds throughout with a push and pull between the guitars and vocals. The song hits hard with its emotional depth, yet breathes w...
Photo by Ebru Yildiz Somehow TORRES keeps surprising us with her music. The musical project of Mackenzie Scott has released a new single that features her vocals and acoustic guitar that would feel at home in a neo-folk song over a pre-programmed drum beat with sounds that at times are either a light squall of guitar feedback and electronic noises. The song has this haunting and unsettling feeling to it, despite sounding like it's trying to be upbeat. I'd say art doesn't always have to be a pleasant experience, but "I got the fear" can be a pleasant listening experience, except for the times it's not. Mackenzie Scott says of her latest single: “A collective dread has been mounting. Everyone I know is having a brawl with the universe, with themselves…wars, climate catastrophe, a pandemic, the worldwide regression on human rights, the political hellscape — it affects everybody, and I know we’re all feeling it in waves of varying degree all the time. I think it’s...
Photo by Alexa Ondrush The latest single from Daisy the Great is a delightful burst of punk-ish energy. "Ballerina" combines punk rock with pop in a way we haven't quite heard. It's kind of like if The Donnas were both more raw and more pop. Plus, "Ballerina" is incredibly theatrical. It sounds like it's taken off of some unreleased punk rock Broadway musical. Not many bands can pull off raw punk at the same time as theatrical musical, but Daisy the Great prove it can be done, and done amazingly well. This is an infectious song that you'll instantly love, and immediately want to hear again just to make sure you heard it right the first time. Daisy the Great say of their latest single: “Ballerina represents a childhood dream of perfection: something that is unattainable, but real enough to give yourself something to compare yourself to. You look for the ballerina in the search for beauty, purpose, talent, body, and success — and prescribe it to the p...
