Happy Little Clouds - "Clear & Present Danger"

Boston's Happy Little Clouds have a brand new single out, and this one might be my new personal favorite of theirs. "Clear & Present Danger" has an extremely 90's feel to it, combining power pop with a grittier alt-rock side. It might be Jac Mestel's vocal delivery on this one, and the basic song structure, but I'm hearing a lot of Belly and Throwing Muses. The song feels like its swirling around you in a charmingly cinematic way. It's dark, but upbeat, melodic but dissonant. "Clear & Present Danger" is the type of song that makes you wish Happy Little Clouds were huge, and if local rock radio was still a thing in 2025 this could easily be a local hit.

Jac Mestel says of the band's latest single:

“This topic feels super relevant right now. We all know someone like this—a boss, a partner, a relative, or even a politician—whose charm hides an ugly side. And we know the truth about them, and we are screaming to their fans and supporters, ‘How can you not see this?!’”
