We've always loved how Ruby Grove have been able to weave together multiple different sounds and genres into a new sound completely their own. Now the Boston band are back with a new single, "Ocean Sun." Once again, this track is nearly impossible to tie down into a neat little description, but I'm obligated to at least try. It's a laid back and upbeat track that's perfect for the impending summer. It's a synth heavy mix of indie rock and jazz, with some strong roots in prog rock, New Wave, and classic rock. As synth heavy as "Ocean Sun" is, there are some amazing almost secret guitar solos that sneak their way in. I hate to admit it, but there might even be some yacht rock in there, too. Plus, this is the best that Melissa Nilles' voice has sounded. It's been great hearing Ruby Grove grow as a band and discover their sound, and we can't wait to hear more.
You can listen to "Ocean Sun" below. Ripple Effect is due out May 30, and is available for pre-order through Bandcamp. For more on Ruby Grove, check out the band's website.
