Magana - "Girl In Chains"

Magana is the musical project of Jeni Magaña, who has previously toured as a bassist with Mitski and Lady Lamb. She's set to release her second solo album, and based on "Girl In Chains," Magana is going to appeal to fans of both of those artists while being entirely its own thing. "Girl In Chains" is a synth heavy indie rock song that has one of the best builds in all of music. Magana just has this captivating quality that demands you focus on her music, and I don't think I've ever heard synths sound this organic before. She refers to her upcoming music as "Witchy Rock," and that perfectly describes what you're going to hear here.

Jeni Magaña says of her upcoming album:

“I recorded this during lockdown in the pandemic. The world started to look strange to me, as if I was an alien plopped down in the middle of Los Angeles but with all these human feelings. I wanted this album to reflect that not only in the lyrics but in the soundscapes as well. I wanted it to sound like earth and space at the same time, so I arranged acoustic guitars, strings, and winds to weave in and out of synth lines and electric guitar solos.”

You can watch the video for "Girl In Chains" below. Teeth is due out March 25 (to coincide with the peak illumination of the Worm Moon) on Audio Antihero Records/Colored Pencils, and is available for pre-order through Bandcamp. For more on Magana, check out the artist on Facebook and Instagram.
