The latest single from Angélica Garcia is unquestionably a pop song, but it's the kind of pop song that pushes the boundaries of what can be considered pop. "Color De Dolor" is also equally a singer-songwriter track... it's just filled with dance and pop elements. Garcia's latest is a gorgeous song that morphs slowly through different segments and styles, but does it so deftly and naturally that it's easy to miss. Even if you're the kind of music snob that normally avoids pure pop (example: me), you should do yourself a favor and check it out. Pop doesn't normally get this creative and experimental, but in Angélica Garcia's hands it does, and it's fantastic.
Anglica Garcia says of her new single:
“Grief is nuanced, and sometimes pain can be intertwined with beauty. Gemelo is a body of work that explores the process of grieving - acknowledging the light and shadow within it. 'Color De Dolor' was the first song that was written for ‘Gemelo’. It's also the first song on the record where I face grief for what it is. I wanted 'Color De Dolor' to feel very textured and lush, like you're walking through a jungle. To me, its kaleidoscopic quality shows sadness and beauty.”
